ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਹਿਕਾਰਤਾ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸੁਖਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਰੰਧਾਵਾ (Sukhjinder Singh Randawa) ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਗੰਨਾ ਖੋਜ ਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਕਲਾਨੌਰ (ਜ਼ਿਲਾ Gurdaspur) ਦੀ ਗਵਰਨਿੰਗ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਦੀ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਹੀ। ਉਨਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਫਸਲੀ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਲਈ ਗੰਨੇ ਦੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਹੁਲਾਰਾ ਦੇਣ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਕਿ ਗੰਨੇ ਦੀ ਫਸਲ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫਸਲੀ ਚੱਕਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਾਹਰ ਕੱਢ ਸਕਣ ਲਈ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸ. ਸੁਖਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਰੰਧਾਵਾ ਨੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਗੰਨੇ ਦੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਗੰਨਾ ਖੋਜ ਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਨਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ, ਨਾਲ ਗੰਨੇ ਦੀ ਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੋਜ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਇਹ ਕਦਮ ਫਸਲੀ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਲਈ ਮੀਲ ਦਾ ਪੱਥਰ ਸਾਬਤ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ, ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਗੰਨੇ ਦੀ ਕਾਸ਼ਤ (Sugarcane Cultivators) ਵੱਲ ਮੋੜਾ ਪਾਉਣਗੇ। ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਹਿਕਾਰੀ ਖੰਡ ਮਿੱਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਵਧੀਆ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਗੰਨਾ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ।
ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਹਿਕਾਰਤਾ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸੁਖਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਰੰਧਾਵਾ ਨੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਬੀਜ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁੱਧਤਾ ਦੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸ਼ੂਗਰਫੈਡ ਨੇ ਗੰਨਾ ਬੀਜ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਕੋਇੰਬਟੂਰ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਸਾਲ ਗੁਰਦਾਸਪੁਰ, ਬਟਾਲਾ ਤੇ ਅਜਨਾਲਾ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੰਨਾ ਕਾਸ਼ਤਕਾਰਾਂ (Sugarcane Cultivators) ਵੱਲੋਂ ਬੀਜੇ ਸੀਓ-0238 ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਗੰਨੇ ਦਾ ਡੀ.ਐਨ.ਏ. ਟੈਸਟ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਸੀ। ਡੀ.ਐਨ.ਏ. ਰਿਪੋਰਟਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਤਾ ਚੱਲਿਆ ਕਿ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਬੀਜ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਬਲਕਿ ਮਿਸ਼ਰਤ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਸਨ ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਇਸ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਸੂਬੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਧੀਆ ਨਤੀਜਾ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਇਆ।
ਇਸੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਵਰਨਿੰਗ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਦਾ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ ਨਿਯੁਕਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ Punjab ਸਹਿਕਾਰਤਾ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਜੋ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਦੇ ਚੇਅਰਮੈਨ ਵੀ ਹਨ, ਨੂੰ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਕੀਤਾ। ਕੌਂਸਲ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਮਾਹਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਪੰਜਾਬ (Punjab) ਦੇ ਦੋ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਅਗਾਂਹਵਧੂ ਗੰਨਾ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ (Sugarcane Cultivators) ਨੂੰ ਗਵਰਨਿੰਗ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਲਈ ਨਾਮਜ਼ਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇ।
